Pensacola Beach, FL is the place to be when Cobia Fishing during the spring Cobia migration. Cobia are plentiful and weighing in from 25-100+ lbs. They are amazingly powerful and fun to catch.
"All hands on deck!" The Cobia hunt is on. Sight fishing for Cobia is the most effective way to land a "big brown spot". Cobia cruise Pensacola Beach on their annual migration north from south Florida heading west along the Gulf Coast before moving offshore to deeper waters to spawn.
Cobia fishing is generaly done with a custom spinning rod with live eels, live bait fish, jigs, and occasionally caught while bottom fishing around wrecks and reefs near & offshore.
The IGFA World Record Cobia was caught in the Gulf of Mexico and topped the scales at 135 pounds 9 oz.! It is common to catch them in the 30-60 lb class and the ocassional 80+ pounder on nears shore & offshore fishing charters.

North West Florida, Pensacola in particular, is world famous for Red Snapper fishing. Red Snapper, Lutjanus campechanus, are plentiful in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Red Snapper are found in waterdepths of 30-300 feet around offshore reefs and fishing wrecks.
